Are you Truly Free?🙃

I hope you had a happy and safe Fourth of July! Our theme this month at the studio is Embracing Freedom! Freedom is a word that means different things to different people. For some, it’s the ability to speak their mind without any restraints. For others, it’s the ability to choose their own path in life. But, are you truly free? Why is it so easy to let ourselves be controlled and confined by the expectations of others? How often do we find ourselves in situations that make us feel trapped or stuck? Maybe we’re in a job we don’t like, or a relationship that isn’t fulfilling.

Most of us are bound by our fears, beliefs, and expectations that we think we have to live up to.  Some are limitations imposed by others. But, do these limitations have to hold us back from living our best lives? I want to talk about how you can embrace freedom in your everyday life to live your life on your own terms.

1. Define your version of freedom.
The first step in achieving freedom is defining what it means to you. Freedom is subjective, and what may be considered freedom to you may not be the same as what it means to others. Take a moment and reflect on what it means. How important is it to you? Would you say it is one of your own personal core values? Where does it rank? Are you free when you can travel the world? Or maybe freedom is living debt-free? Being able to define freedom may help you make better decisions in the future and allow you to create a life that is aligned with your vision.

2. Identify what societal expectations and norms you need to let go of.
Many of us live our lives based on what society expects from us. This could be expectations to attend a prestigious university, achieve high-level success in our careers, or to maintain certain standards of beauty or physique. Or even finding that perfect someone, and getting married and having children. Unfortunately, these expectations can limit our potential and restrict us from living our lives to the fullest. Take a step back and evaluate which societal norms are not aligned with your values and beliefs, and let go of them. This way, you can create your path to freedom on your terms.

3. Take Responsibility for Your Life
It’s easy to blame circumstances or other people for the things that happen in our lives. But, the reality is that we have more control over our lives than we think. When we take responsibility for our actions and choices, we begin to see the power we have to create change. Instead of waiting for things to happen or relying on others to make decisions for us, we can take ownership of our lives and make choices that lead to the life we want.

3. Create a daily routine
Though it may seem counterintuitive, having a routine can help you experience greater freedom. I always say there is freedom in structure! A well-planned and structured day can provide a sense of control and peace of mind. Incorporating activities that you enjoy can also make your day feel more fulfilling. Whether it’s waking up early to go for a jog, practicing yoga, or simply sitting down to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning, make sure to include activities that bring you a sense of joy and comfort.

4. Focus on the present moment
Often, we get caught up in the past or planning for the future, neglecting to appreciate the present moment. However, living in the present is a vital aspect of embracing freedom. Take time to enjoy the small moments, breathe in the fresh air, and appreciate the beauty around you. Take yourself out of your mind and practice going into your body so you can be present. Our mind tends to make us think about the past or future…but not the present. Practice mindfulness and gratitude to develop a heightened sense of awareness and appreciation for the present moment.

It’s up to you to redefine what freedom means in your life and actively embrace it.
