December gives us all an opportunity to reflect on what we have accomplished in the past year, what we are thankful for and what a huge difference we have made in our lives. It’s easy to fall into a mindset of negativity and not giving yourself the credit you deserve, because something you planned out didn’t go your way, but 2021 has been one hell of a ride. Allow yourself some self-compassion. What is self-compassion? I’m glad you asked! From the dictionary: Self-compassion entails being warm and understanding toward ourselves when we suffer, fail, or feel inadequate, rather than ignoring our pain or flagellating ourselves with self-criticism. Ooof! Doesn’t that sound nice!? Try it, it does wonders for the body, mind, and soul!
As 2022 rounds the corner and we finished our first quarter (the first 3 months of 2022), all I hear is “new year, new me” and people are seizing this opportunity to turn over new leaves and start fresh on January first. But the truth is, what you worked for all of 2021 still carries over to the new year. All of your successes and failures, all of the new friends you’ve made and skills you’ve learned will follow you into 2022. This holds true to your time at our studio and outside. If you are starting to feel like, OMG, I didn’t even start on my resolution…IT’S OK…take a breath!
Taking time over the new year to begin new challenges and journeys is a wonderful thing, and a new year is a clean slate, but it’s the work you put in this past year and in this moment now that is what sets you up for success this coming year! Whatever success means for you. Don’t let what society deems successful control what you want. Just be you.
We always teach our students that by coming into classes and getting more confident and strong, builds resilience. It will make you ready for the new year. Getting your body used to dance and fitness, increasing your willpower, and improving your attitude during class, that is what gives you that same sense in your work or family environment.
A New Year gives you the opportunity to capitalize on what you already have and bring it to a higher level that you’ve never seen before. You are capable, sexy, and powerful! Going into 2022 with the attitude that it will be your best yet, is what will make it your best yet, but don’t forget what you’ve done to get here.
Putting in the work prior to the New Year is a guarantee that you will be successful in the coming 12 months. Set your goals, but allow yourself time to achieve them. Start small, allow self-compassion. We’re proud of all the hard work you’ve done so far. Whether you were inverting at pole class, soaking in sweat at zumba, or learning the fundamentals in our Into Series, you have put in the work to be the best version of you. Those of you who haven’t joined us yet, we look forward to meeting you and helping you on that journey, whatever it is for you.
I look forward to seeing you at the studio this year! Let’s make it the best yet.
