Finding Silver Linings:
Silver linings can be found in any situation, no matter how challenging it may seem. While it’s okay to acknowledge and process difficult emotions during tough times, it’s essential to shift our focus to the things we are thankful for. Sometimes it can be challenging to see the good when things seem to be falling apart, but try to start small. Maybe you’re grateful for a sunny day, a loving partner, or a good cup of coffee. Find gratitude in even the smallest things, and over time, you’ll start to see the goodness around you more clearly. And, if you truly can’t find anything, accept that, and find hope that perhaps tomorrow will be better.
Keeping a Gratitude Journal:
One way to regularly practice gratitude is by keeping a gratitude journal. Take a few minutes each day to reflect on the things you’re thankful for. It could be as simple as the air you’re breathing or the roof over your head. Write down three things you’re grateful for each day, and over time, you’ll notice a shift in your mindset and increase the number of items you are writing down. Notice the sensations in your body and the sounds around you. This can help bring you back to the present moment and shift your focus away from negative thoughts.
Expressing Gratitude:
Expressing gratitude to others can also bring a sense of joy and connection. Take the time to thank the people in your life who have made a positive impact on you. It could be a friend who’s always there to listen or the instructors who hold space for you at the studio. Expressing gratitude can also help strengthen your relationships with others and make you feel more connected to your community.
